A lot happening at the SIQMAG HQ. Going forward with some submissions to a few local zines, building a new studio for comix meditation, and cranking some new material out weekly again. After these past few months of traveling, things are getting back on track. Check in for updates!
---So recently my favorite pop-punk band, Rational Anthem asked me to draw up a design for their new line of beer koozies! I have been mixing in some elements of old freak art, Ed Roth monsters and the like into my style--I think it's a nice marriage. This is the first full illustration I have completed that shows the mix off. The koozies will be in B&W (seen below) and maybe in color for stickers/shirts if they decide to do so. I'll post links to buy their merch, along with the upcoming "PRINTS" section of the site.

---Oh and I wanted to share the original sketch that spawned this drawing... Mainly because I was sort of rambling around in my head the other night concerning WHY I love to draw cartoons so much and why I even started. I think for me, as a young kid, I was obsessed with the idea of bringing something into existence. I remember sitting in 3rd grade history class and drawing one of my first "comics" which were basically a red figure and a blue figure, battling all over my worksheet. The end result was a scribbled up sheet of paper but in my imagination, I had just witnessed another great episode of the explosive twosome I later called "The Fuzz Brothers". Something about being able to take a thought that no one else can see, put it on paper and then it is an active part of the real world excited me as a kid. Bringing characters to life, from funny little blips of thought, still does.
---So a ton of work is being done behind the scenes at ol' SIQ MAG. I have been writing comics (soon to make web) for a new business I am involved in, called Bone Chow. The comics feature Judah (my dog, who also appeared in Welcome to the Future!) and his new girlfriend Cassandra. The comics surround their adventures in health & wellness---I know, what's going on here? No puking bums, disgusting riff-raff or horrible close-ups of the decaying human condition? Well, it's peppered in there. PLUS.....
...There's this guy. Pioneer Paul. Total psychopath and forever improvising woodsman. Pioneer Paul came to me while in Colorado for all the obvious reasons(trapping stores, Danny Boone velvet posters, etc), but I thought he would make a great comix series given his ruthless need to survive and narrate to his imaginary camera crew. It seems that PeePaw episodes just drop out of the sky while I am here in Portland, too. It will be gross and totally hilarious, this I can promise you. Maybe I'll even submit them to local weirdo comic quarterly "PORK". We shall see Siqo's, we shall see...
Can anyone believe my last post was Halloween? Truly sickening. A lot of cartoons have been cranked out, none have made the blog! Lots of stuff coming this month--doing logo/comic work for our new project, Bone Chow--should be finishing a Pioneer Paul (new mini series)-- have taken the last few months to move to Portland OR. Drawings coming, folks!
Every writer needs one. I've packed my things into an RV to go on a comics writing tour and the actual moving part has been slowing up production. Comics will be coming soon, but not before the monsters in my head give me a whole lot of shit for not putting pen to paper. Happy Halloween kiddos! A week or two more and there will be a flood of new stuff.
--Feeling like Charlie Brown lately. At least when it comes to drawing and editing. In the process of moving across the country and trying to cram tonight for a "Welcome.." due in two days. Didn't post last weeks because of the horrific schedule I have been working. This and many more excuses as to why I am a piece of dog shit. Got my bike stolen a few weeks ago and it reminded me of the first time I got my car stolen here in Miami...Then the second....and the third....... Anyway, the who's-who of that whole mess led me to create the following. Getting out of Miami soon. "Welcome.." may be postponed until further notice and either a new direction will be laid out for my autobiographical stuff or I'll just take a fucking break already. More to come, uncertainty about what O-O
